A rare leadership opportunity has arisen for an experienced Open Pit Mine Manager to oversee operations at a dynamic mining site in Western Australia.

This role is pivotal in driving efficiency, innovation, and operational excellence while ensuring alignment with safety, budget, and strategic business objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Set clear and achievable objectives for open pit operations within budget parameters.
  • Manage all technical and commercial aspects of operations, ensuring alignment with planned goals.
  • Oversee daily activities, reviewing performance benchmarks and adjusting plans as required.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to communicate operational support needs.
  • Balance competing priorities and allocate resources effectively to meet short- and long-term objectives.
  • Drive innovation and productivity through continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Develop and manage operational budgets, ensuring financial targets and KPIs are met.
  • Lead capital development and infrastructure investment projects, ensuring on-time, on-budget delivery.
  • Provide strategic input into Life of Mine planning and short to medium-term mine planning.
  • Evaluate mining methods, equipment allocation, and cost efficiency to enhance operations.
  • Oversee contractor performance, optimising financial outcomes and resource allocation.
  • Lead and support a high-performing team, fostering a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Develop succession planning and professional growth strategies for team members.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, industry regulations, and WA mining legislation.

About You:

  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in an open pit mining management role with a background in gold mining. 
  • Highly developed knowledge of open pit  mining, planning, and standards.
  • Leadership experience managing multi-disciplinary teams in a medium to large-scale operation.
  • Extensive experience in mine planning, engineering, drill & blast, and contractor management.
  • Sound knowledge of mining technology and heavy production equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive cost control, budgeting, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Comprehensive understanding of WA mining legislation and safety standards.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering (preferred not required.
  • WA Quarry Manager’s Certificate of Competency (or eligibility to obtain).
  • WA Manual C-Class Driver’s License.
  • WHS for Statutory Supervisor Qualification (Schedule 26).
  • Site Senior Executive Competency (or eligibility to obtain).
  • Additional qualification in Business/Management (desirable).
  • Must have experience working in gold mining.
